Interior Ministry releases polling workers' voter turnout in elections

BEIRUT — Around 84 percent of the 14,950 workers and clerks managing Lebanon’s 2022 parliamentary elections voted on Thursday, the Interior Ministry said in a press release. The parliamentary elections for Lebanese residents is scheduled to take place on Sunday.

Here’s what we know:

    • “A percentage of 84 percent is proof of the citizens' desire to practice their rights and vote,” Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi tweeted by the end of the election day for people organizing the parliamentary elections.

    • Polls opened at 7 a.m and closed at 7 p.m. The Interior Ministry issued a press release at 8:40 p.m.

    • “Thanks to all the employees who voted today, I wish you the best of luck in your mission on Sunday which I hope will record the highest percentage of voters in Lebanon. Lebanon is waiting for you, together we will win,” Mawlawi also said in his tweet.

    • South Lebanon Governor Mansour Daou stressed while monitoring the progress of the electoral process that, “We worked to provide various things that would ensure a comfortable atmosphere for the voters to exercise their national right to vote under democratic conditions without any obstacles.”
