Mawlawi announces new electronic technique for counting votes but provides no further details

BEIRUT — A new electronic technique for counting votes will be used on Sunday May 15 after ballots are cast in the legislative elections, Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced Monday.

Here’s what we know:

    • The minister did not provide more details on this new counting technique.

    • The minister also promised all civil servants, judges and security agents who will be working on election day that they will be paid in “cash within a week.”

    • Over the weekend, around 130,000 Lebanese out of a total of 225,000 registered voters abroad have cast their vote. On Sunday, around 3.7 million voters registered in Lebanon are due to cast ballots.
