Residents hold sit-in after decision to stop permitting crusher licenses

BEIRUT — Residents, quarriers and crusher owners in of Baalbeck and Nabi Sheet held a sit-in on Saturday, cutting off the highway leading to Baalbeck in protest of a decision by the Interior Ministry to stopping permitting crushers licenses, L’Orient Today’s correspondent in the Bekaa reported.

Here’s what we know:

    • During the protest, Nabi Sheet’s head of the municipality ِAli al-Mousawi and the Makhateer (Mayors or municipal record keepers) of the area urged the Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi to withdraw his decision, claiming that other areas are being given permits.

    • Mousawi said, “the stopping of crushers means that many people would become unemployed amid the collapsing economic situation, and accordingly, we call the interior minister to withdraw his decision and allow the crushers to work immediately.”
