In Arkoub, they say yes to the resistance but not to Hezbollah

As part of a series taking the pulse of the country through immersive reports from the four corners of Lebanon, L'Orient Today went to Arkoub region (South Lebanon), in some of the Sunni villages in the Shiite-majority area.

Yellow and green flags flap in the wind in the villages all along the southern road. Past the Litani River to the east, endless valleys and fields of olive trees are in sight, with the imposing snow-capped Mount Hermon in the background.At the junction of Souk al-Khan, a thawra (revolution) fist appears out of nowhere, as if to signal the obvious change of territory.It is there, between the ruins of this sixth century market that inhabitants of the area of Marjeyoun-Hasbaya had gathered during the Oct. 17, 2019, popular uprising.On the small roads that lead to the four Sunni villages in the Arkoub area, there are no posters of opposition candidates, nor of traditional parties for that matter.In the West, Hezbollah reigns supreme.
