BEIRUT — A man set himself on fire, Friday, near Layoun gas station in Zahle, before people extinguished the flames, L’Orient Today’s correspondent in the Bekaa reported.
Here’s what we know:
• The man, who has not been identified, doused himself with fuel for unknown reasons. The Red Cross transported him to the Hrawi governmental hospital.
• A week ago, in Saida, a man tried to set himself alight before passers-by prevented him from doing so. Reports of suicide attempts have increased in Lebanon since the 2019 economic crisis.
• Last November, a father with a can of gasoline in hand immolated himself in Hasbaya, South Lebanon. It is said he did so because of his inability to pay his children’s school and transportation costs.
