BEIRUT — Weapons were seized on the Lebanon-Israel border Monday after the Israeli army spotted an unspecified number of people approaching Israeli territory from the Lebanese side of the security fence separating the two states, Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee said in a tweet Tuesday.

Here’s what we know:

    • “The Israeli army has spotted suspects approaching Israeli territory at the security fence from the Lebanese side,” Adraee said in his tweet. “They then called the security forces who found two weapons and nearly a hundred grenades,” Adraee added. “We will continue to work against any attempt to violate Israel’s sovereignty and acts of sabotage or smuggling from the Lebanese border,” he added.

    • The seizure took place as tension rose between the two countries over the weekend after a rocket was launched toward Israel from Lebanon. The Israeli army responded to the rocket attack by firing more than 20 shells into Lebanese territory. No casualties were reported.

    • On Monday, the Israeli army announced that it had identified a member of a drug and arms trafficking gang on the Lebanon-Israel border, and claimed the individual is affiliated with Hezbollah.
