Diesel shortages keep Alfa cellular networks offline for sixth day in a row in northern Bekaa

BEIRUT — Alfa cellular networks remained offline Tuesday in all villages of northern Bekaa and in the city of Hermel for the sixth consecutive day due to diesel shortages at transmission stations, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Here’s what we know:

    • Cellular networks often stop working in rural areas of Lebanon for a number of reasons, among them the theft of batteries and cables, fuel shortages or workers’ strikes to protest rates of pay and deteriorating living conditions in the face of the country’s unprecedented economic crisis.

    • Fuel prices increased again on Tuesday as the Lebanese lira continued to trade above LL27,500 to the US dollar on the parallel market.
