Lebanese Army says three arrested, weapons seized after clashes in Tripoli

BEIRUT — The Lebanese Army said Tuesday that it has seized several weapons and arrested three people following a dispute between rival families which had escalated into clashes earlier today in Tripoli and led to the injuries of several people.

Here’s what we know:

    • In a statement, the army said it has "chased the people who shot during the clashes and arrested three individuals following a number of raids on homes.”

     • “Gas masks were also seized and searches continue to arrest the rest of those involved,” the army continued, adding that the soldiers also searched homes in the area of Abi Samra in Tripoli and seized six Kalashnikov-type machine guns, as well as ammunition.

    • “An investigation was opened with the detainees under the supervision of the competent judiciary,” the army added.

    • Earlier today, armed clashes occurred in Tripoli’s Hay al-Barraniyyeh area between members of the Hijazi and Zahid families.

    • On Monday, armed clashes also took place in the Bab al-Tebbaneh area of Tripoli between two rival families, leaving three people injured and causing material damage.
