Pope Francis will visit Lebanon in June: Presidency

BEIRUT — Pope Francis will visit Lebanon in June, the Lebanese Presidency announced on its twitter account.

Here’s what we know:

    • “President Aoun was informed by the pope’s ambassador that Pope Francis will visit Lebanon this coming June and will schedule his visit and its program,” the presidency said in its Twitter post.

    • “The Lebanese are waiting for the pope’s visit to express their gratitude and to thank him for his initiatives towards their country and the prayers he made for its peacefulness and stability,” the presidency added.

    • Last April, the pope announced his wish to go to Beirut “as soon as the conditions are favorable.”
