BEIRUT — Mark Habka, lawyer of local TV channel MTV Lebanon was questioned Tuesday before being released on bail, the TV station MTV reported. Habka is the subject of a complaint filed by Mount Lebanon Public Prosecutor Ghada Aoun, who accuses him of attacking her in a televised episode of Sar el Waet hosted by Marcel Ghanem.

Here’s what we know:

    • The complaint was forwarded to Advocate General at the Mount Lebanon Appeals Court Raed Abou Chakra, who decided this morning to release Habka on bail.

    • “Habka presented all the documents proving the accuracy of his remarks made during an interview with Marcel Ghanem,” MTV reported on Tuesday morning. Last week, the lawyer said he would imminently present two civil and penal actions against Aoun.

    • During that episode, Habka was talking about CEO of Mecattaf company, Michel Mecattaf’s death, saying “unfairness [was] inflicted on him from the judiciary represented by Judge Aoun, who conducted the prosecution against Mecattaf,” accusing Aoun of violations on Twitter by expressing her political opinions.

    • In August 2021, the Mount Lebanon Public Prosecutor Judge Ghada Aoun initiated a series of lawsuits against Mecattaf, his company and several people and companies whom she suspects of being involved in money laundering operations through the Mecattaf company.
