BEIRUT — Michel Mecattaf, CEO of Mecattaf company, specializing in foreign exchange transactions and fund transfers, died at the age of 52 Friday after a heart attack, a source at the Saint Georges de Ajaltoun Hospital told L’Orient Today.
Here’s what we know:
• Mecattaf was the son-in-law of former President Amine Gemayel. He unsuccessfully ran as a candidate in the 2018 legislative elections in Metn on the Lebanese Forces ticket. He also owns Nidaa el-Watan newspaper.
• In August 2021, the Mount Lebanon Public Prosecutor Judge Ghada Aoun initiated a series of lawsuits against Mecattaf, his company and several people and companies whom she suspects of being involved in money laundering operations through the Mecattaf company.
