BEIRUT — Most public and private schools in Dennieh, North Lebanon were closed on Monday due to bad weather conditions and deposits of snow on the roads. Meanwhile, the area remained in darkness for the third day in a row following power cuts caused by the storm.

Here’s what we know:

    • Temperatures dropped below zero Sunday night and the accumulation of snow has cut off most of the mountain roads that are 1200 meters above sea level. The Municipality of Dennieh, the Public Works Ministry and Lebanese Civil Defense are trying to reopen the roads.

    • The storm also cut off electricity in the area for the third day in a row, along with drinking water in some towns of Jard al-Dennieh as a result of network malfunctions and the freezing of water in the pipes due to cold temperatures.

    • MP Jihad al-Samad addressed Parliament in a statement on the issue of electricity cuts in the area. “In light of the snowstorm in Lebanon, it was pointed out that the Dennieh area is immersed in darkness due to malfunctions and because of the strike,” hoping that “Electricité du Liban will help us to seek out these malfunctions.”
