BEIRUT — Parliament Speaker since 1992 and Amal Movement leader Nabih Berri has submitted his candidacy to again run for Parliament in the constituency of South Lebanon II in the elections scheduled for May 15, the National News Agency reported Wednesday.
Here’s what we know:
• Berri, 84, is among the establishment political figures opposed by the Oct. 17, 2019 protest movement. His critics accuse him of corruption and clientelism.
• The upcoming legislative elections are seen by some Lebanese as an opportunity to change the current ruling class.
