Lebanese Foreign Affairs Ministry condemns Russian invasion of Ukraine

BEIRUT – The Foreign Affairs Ministry said Thursday it condemns the “invasion of Ukraine” and “calls on Russia to immediately stop military operations.”

Here’s what we know:

    • In a statement, the ministry said that “Lebanon condemns the invasion of Ukrainian territory and calls on Russia to immediately stop military operations and withdraw its forces from it and to return to the logic of dialogue and negotiation to solve the current conflict in order to secure the sovereignty, the security and concerns of both sides.”

    • The Foreign Affairs Ministry also said negotiations would enable the two countries to “spare the people of the two countries, the European continent and the world the tragedy and agony of war.”

    • Earlier today the ministry announced a platform on which Lebanese living in Ukraine who wish to leave can register.

    • On Thursday morning, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in the biggest attack by a European country on another since World War II.
