BEIRUT— Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced on Friday the seizure of 700,000 captagon pills headed for Riyadh a few hours after the Internal Security Forces reported that they had also confiscated thousands of such pills bound for Africa.

Here’s what we know:

    • ISF confiscated “700,000 captagon pills intended to be transported via a truck to Saudi Arabia,” the minister said in a tweet.

    • He also said that the police arrested a Lebanese man in the Bekaa Valley who “turned out to be in contact with the brother of a detainee involved in the largest trafficking captagon operation to the Arab countries.”

    • Earlier on Friday, the ISF announced that they had seized thousands of captagon pills in Tripoli destined for an unspecified African country on Feb. 12. Two days ago, the Lebanese army arrested suspects on a mini-bus loaded with captagon.
