BEIRUT – A small drone was intercepted by Israel near its border with Lebanon on Friday, according to the Israeli army. A drone belonging to Hezbollah had been shot down by the Israeli military on Thursday.
Here’s what we know:
An Arabic language spokesman for the Israeli army tweeted that “a small enemy drone from Lebanon infiltrated Israel, and alarm sirens went on in the Galilee region,” adding that they fired interceptor missiles from the Iron Dome system.
“Helicopters and planes were dispatched to the scene,” added the Israeli military official, saying that the details of this incident “are under review.”
In a speech delivered on Wednesday, Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah said that his party had been producing drones locally, stressing that the Shiite party does not need to import them from its Iranian ally. He also indicated that Hezbollah was now able to convert its rockets into precision rockets, and that it had been doing this for years now.
