BEIRUT — The Lebanese Foreign Ministry on Saturday called on the country’s citizens in Ukraine to “take the utmost care,” amid heightened fears amid mounting concerns Russia might invade the eastern European nation.
Here’s what we know:
• In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that it was following “the development of the situation in Ukraine” and requested Lebanese nationals in the country “to take the utmost care” and exercise caution, the National News Agency reported.
• The statement comes after a slew of travel warnings in recent days for Ukraine, with US President Joseph Biden on Thursday saying that “American citizens should leave now.” On Saturday, Germany urged its nationals to leave Ukraine as fears of military conflict have intensified.
• Among Arab nations, Iraq called on its citizens to leave, while the UAE requested its nationals to postpone travel to Ukraine. Saudi Arabia asked its citizens in Ukraine to contact their country’s embassy to “facilitate immediate departure.”
