BEIRUT — Deputy Parliament Speaker Elie Ferzli announced on Friday his candidacy for the Greek Orthodox seat in the constituency of Western Bekaa-Rashaya, in the legislative elections taking place on May 15.
Here’s what we know:
• In a statement, Ferzli considered it "difficult" to predict the results of the election. "The scene is overloaded with surprises," he said.
• In this context, he said that Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement "have agreed to ally and cooperate in all constituencies.”
• Hezbollah and FPM have been bound since 2006 by the so-called Mar Mikhael Agreement, but relations between the two parties have deteriorated over the years. But FPM leader Gebran Bassil said he wanted to continue his alliance with the Shiite party, especially during the upcoming legislative elections.
