BEIRUT – Education Minister Abbas Halabi announced Wednesday that Thursday would be a “regular teaching day” after schools were instructed to close the previous day due to potential road blockages, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Here’s what we know:
• “Thursday is a normal teaching day for secondary and primary schools, institutes, technical schools, the Lebanese University, and all public and private universities,” the minister said in a statement. Halabi also suggested that instructors should intensify lessons on Thursday morning to make up for lost time.
• Halabi had called on Tuesday for educational establishments to close Wednesday in view of the protests scheduled by the land transport unions which would block access to the learning facilities.
• The land transport unions’ protest is scheduled to continue on Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday, the unions’ head Bassam Tlais announced that a press conference would take place Thursday morning at the General Confederation of Lebanese Workers’ headquarters.
