BEIRUT – The head of the Lebanese Forces, Samir Geagea, announced on Sunday the candidacy of a member of his party in Kesrouan, also criticizing the Free Patriotic Movement and Hezbollah.

Here’s what we know:

    • Geagea announced Chawki Daccache's candidacy for one of the Maronite seats in Kesrouan, saying that “any vote that goes to the Free Patriotic Movement and Hezbollah means a prolongation of pain” in Kesrouan, and that “the legislative elections are a real opportunity to replace the current majority [ruling system].”

    • In response, FPM’s office in Kesrouan then issued a statement asking Geagea: “What do you know of the inhabitants of Kesrouan and their pain? What did your deputy from the region do in these circumstances?”

    • Earlier this month, Geagea announced the candidacy of Ghaith Yazbeck, editor-in-chief of the local TV channel MTV, in Batroun – FPM head Gebran Bassil’s district – for one of the two Maronite seats.
