BEIRUT – Retired general and vice president of the Lebanon Message association, Khalil Helou, announced on Sunday evening that he is running in this year’s parliamentary elections for the Baabda constituency.
Here’s what we know:
• “I am a candidate for the legislative elections in the constituency of Baabda in alliance with the forces of change in the other constituencies. sovereignty first, constitution, reforms and change are our vision. Long live free, sovereign and independent Lebanon,” wrote Helou on Twitter.
• Also on Sunday, the National Liberal Party announced the candidacy of its leader, Camille Dory Chamoun, in the legislative elections for one of the three Maronite seats in Baabda.
• In the electoral district of Baabda, six seats should be filled by three Maronites, two Shiites and one Druze. In 2018, Helou withdrew his candidacy for one of the three Maronite seats there.
