BEIRUT — Residents of Tannourine on Saturday demanded that authorities take action regarding a week-long disruption of state electricity and internet services in the mountain town east of Batroun.
Here’s what we know:
• Residents of the town called on local authorities, Électricité du Liban, state telecoms company Ogero and the MTC Touch and Alfa mobile communications company to address a week-long internet and electricity blackout, the National News Agency reported.
• The residents also asked the Tannourine Municipality to reconsider the rationing of back-up generator power provision, citing the Lebanese lira’s recent appreciation in value to the US dollar, so “life can return to almost normal” in the town, the NNA added.
• Fuel shortages for Ogero have led to a spate of recent internet blackouts across the country, including in Beirut. On Wednesday, the head of Ogero said that most telecoms centers in the country have been supplied with diesel and that the rest of the centers would be resupplied, leading to improved internet services.
