BEIRUT — State telecommunications provider Ogero announced Monday the temporary suspension of its services within the area of Sofar Central due to a diesel shortage.
Here's what we know:
• Ogero announced the suspension of its services in Sawfar via Twitter on Monday and apologized to its customers. “We apologize for this circumstance, it is beyond our control,” their Twitter account stated.
• Over the weekend, Ogero announced similar inactivity of its services in large swathes of Beirut amid diesel shortages.
• The outrages, according to Telecommunications Minister Johnny Corm and Ogero Director-General Imad Kreidieh, occurred as a result of an administrative delay in the payment of additional funds allocated to the office by Parliament in December, as a result of the failure to replace one of the two accountants attached to the Telecommunications Ministry, who must countersign the transfer order.
• This comes as Lebanon's telecommunications providers are fighting to keep their services running in the midst of an economic crisis in which fuel and operational expenses have skyrocketed but service charges have remained essentially constant.
