BEIRUT — State telecommunications provider Ogero on Sunday announced the temporary suspension of its services in the Ashrafieh Central area of Beirut due to a diesel shortage.

Here’s what we know:

    • “Our services within the Ashrafieh Central area have been temporarily suspended until we are re-supplied with diesel. We apologize for this circumstance beyond our control,” Ogero tweeted on Sunday afternoon.

    • The outage follows a similar shutdown in large areas of west Beirut, including Hamra and the greater Ras Beirut area, as well as Dar al-Mreisseh, Mazraa, Moseitbeh, Minet al-Hosn and Zoqaq al-Blat, on Saturday evening after diesel stocks ran out.

    • Lebanon's telecoms companies are struggling to maintain their services in the face of an economic crisis in which fuel and operating costs have risen dramatically while the rates they charge for service provision remain largely unchanged.
