The first round of union elections in the Order of Dentists ended Sunday. Union members are voting today for nine members of the council and the president of the association.

Here's what we know:

    • According to L'Orient's correspondent at the scene, hundreds of dentists came in the morning to cast their ballots in the second vote scheduled for the Order in two months. The first election, which was held at the end of November, was invalidated because of problems related to the counting of votes and the destruction of some ballot boxes.

    •  As the first round of voting for council members ended shortly before noon, many dentists were still rushing into the building to vote, causing tensions but no major incidents.

    • The counting of votes must now be done manually, and during this procedure, voters were asked to leave the election site at the House of Doctors until the start of the second round of voting. They gathered outside on the square in front of the building, under the surveillance of military personnel deployed on the premises.

    • During the second round of voting, scheduled from 3 p.m., dentists will then be able to vote for the candidates for the presidency of the order. Three candidates are still in the running: the former president of the order, Élias Maalouf; the president of the financial commission within the outgoing council, Émilie Hayek; and finally, Ronald Younès.
