ISF arrests suspects accused of electrical wire theft in Baalbek

BEIRUT — The Internal Security Forces said in a statement on Wednesday that it arrested two people for allegedly stealing electrical wires from the general network in the village of Brital in Baalbeck.

Here’s what we know:

    • The ISF said the two suspects extracted copper from these wires in a factory in Zahle to sell them on the black market.

    • The two suspects confessed after being investigated, the ISF claimed.

    • The theft of electrical wires has become common in recent months due to their high resale value, as the country’s local currency continues to lose value against the US dollar and people struggle to sustain their basic needs such as fuel, health and food as they endure Lebanon’s unprecedented economic crisis.
