ISF announces the apprehension of alleged ISIS militant in Saida

BEIRUT — The Internal Security Forces announced on Thursday that they had arrested in Saida a man suspected of being affiliated with the jihadist group the Islamic State.
Here’s what we know:
• In a statement, the ISF indicated that the man in question, a Palestinian, is the subject of seven court warrants for belonging to a terrorist organization and for possessing weapons.
• During interrogation, the suspect acknowledged that since 2015, he has belonged to two Islamic State cells and took part in several fights in the Ain el-Helwe camp, according to the statement.
• ISIS was officially expelled from Lebanon in August 2017, but cells of the jihadist group are known to still exist in the country. Authorities regularly announce arrests of alleged members of the terrorist group.
