BEIRUT — Imad Kreidieh, chairman of state telecommunications provider Ogero, tweeted Sunday that President Michel Aoun has signed a decree to grant Ogero an additional line of credit.

Here’s what we know:

    • “In response to the appeal of His Excellency the Minister of Communications Johnny Corm, I was informed by Mr. Antoine Choucair, Director General of the Presidency of the Republic, that his Excellency the President signed a law increasing the appropriations allocated to the Ogero Authority and that the law will be issued tomorrow, Monday,” Kreidieh announced in a tweet Sunday.

    • Corm warned in a statement earlier Sunday that a “gradual disruption” of telecommunications and Internet services might begin within hours or days. According to Corm, “Tripoli’s power plant and other stations have run out of fuel, and will therefore shut down.”

    • To avoid such a disaster, the minister urged the president to urgently approve “the opening of a loan of LL350 billion” for Ogero.
