ISF announces the seizure of 45,000 captagon pills

BEIRUT – The Internal Security Forces seized 45,000 captagon pills destined for export, the agency announced Thursday.
Here’s what we know:
• According to a statement from the agency, ISF officers arrested a 27-year-old Syrian man in Akkar on Dec. 8.
• Some 45,000 captagon pills were found in the car he was driving, according to the ISF, and the detainee allegedly confessed that the pills were being smuggled out of the country from the Bekaa valley.
• The ISF referred to the detainee as the “mastermind” of the operation, and said, “work is underway to arrest the rest of those involved.”
• The government is under pressure to stem the flow of narcotics out of the country, some of which end up in the hands of Gulf consumers, to the chagrin of authorities there.
