Social media influencer says passport confiscated at Beirut airport on charges of ‘insulting the presidency’

BEIRUT — Social media influencer Toufic Braidi has released a video on his Instagram page saying that General Security at the Beirut airport “confiscated my passport” upon arrival in the country Monday night on charges of “insulting the presidency.”

Here is what we know:

    • Braidi, known as Toufiluk on social media, is expected to appear before the General Security’s intelligence branch on Tuesday, he added.

    • In the video, Braidi cautioned activists residing abroad against returning to Lebanon out of concern they may experience similar issues on arrival here.

    • Last week, social media influencer Amani Danhach said a supporter of President Michel Aoun requested the public prosecutor's office investigate her for “contempt for the Presidency of the Republic.”
