BEIRUT — A hearing for former MP Fares Souhaid in a lawsuit filed against him by Hezbollah was postponed Monday due to a strike by courthouse employees.

Here’s what we know:

    • Hezbollah sued Souhaid for allegedly inflaming sectarian tensions and blaming it wrongly, according to the party, for the deadly Aug. 4, 2020 explosion at the Beirut port. Souhaid accused Hezbollah of storing weapons and hazardous material in the port.

    • In a press conference yesterday Souhaid accused Hezbollah of bringing a complaint to the judiciary without itself believing in the judiciary, a reference to the group’s charges that the judge in charge of the Beirut port explosion investigation, Judge Tarek Bitar, is biased and has “politicized” the probe.

    • Souhaid said the lawsuit was just a pretext “to incite my assassination.”
