BEIRUT — Members of the Haj Hassan family briefly kidnapped the brother of a Hezbollah MP before releasing the man, who they had shot and wounded, L’Orient Today’s correspondent in the northeastern region reported Tuesday.
Here is what we know:
• The victim, Wassim Hamadeh, is the brother of MP Ihab Hamadeh (Hezbollah/Baalbeck-Hermel), according to the correspondent and Lebanon’s state-run NNA.
• Gunmen in four four-wheel vehicles, opened fire on Haj Hassan’s house in Hermel, as a response to the kidnapping of the MP’s brother.
• The Hamadeh and Haj Hassan feud dates back to six years ago, when another brother of Ihab Hamadeh was killed by a member of the Haj Hassan family. The killer was then imprisoned.
• Wassim Hamadeh was handed over to Hezbollah by his captors, according to L’Orient Today’s correspondent, after which the organization’s Islamic Health Organization transferred him to a hospital in Beirut.
