Fires break out in Akkar, the Bekaa

BEIRUT — Wildfires erupted on Tuesday in both Akkar and the Bekaa, scorching large green areas and marking the fourth consecutive day of forest fires breaking out in assorted locations around the country.

Here’s what we know:

    • Wildfires continued to burn at noon Tuesday between the villages of Jibrayel and Dahr al-Layssine in Akkar. Civil Defense firefighters struggled to reach the site of the blazes because of the difficult terrain, L’Orient Today's correspondent in Akkar reported, adding that the firefighters are working to stop the fires from reaching the nearby farms.

    • In the Bekaa, fires reignited in the village of Bab Mareh, which led the Lebanese Army to intervene and assist the CIvil Defense with their helicopters, the NNA reported.

    • Investigations have been opened by the Interior Ministry to determine the cause of the wildfires, most of which the Environment Minister Nasser Yassin yesterday described as “man made.”
