Accidental grenade explosion kills teenager in Baalbeck

BEIRUT — A 13-year-old died Sunday after the accidental explosion of a grenade in the area of Kaab al-Masnaa, located in the town of Brital in Baalbeck, our sister publication L'Orient-Le Jour reports.

Here’s what we know:

   • The victim, Hadi Ali Khalil, from the village of Khreibeh in western Baalbeck, was handling the device while he was collecting scrap metal with his father. The grenade exploded in his hands, killing him.

   • According to the state-run National News Agency, security forces attended the scene and opened an investigation into the death.

   • Explosive devices abandoned during the numerous armed conflicts that have marked Lebanon’s history of Lebanon in recent decades often result in deaths or injuries.
