BEIRUT — Israel has launched airstrikes in Lebanon, an Israeli military spokesman confirmed, as Lebanese media report two airstrikes in the southern part of the country.

Here’s what we know:

    • The Israeli military announced overnight that its fighter jets conducted raids in Lebanon in response to rocket fire Wednesday at Israel.

    • A spokesperson for the Israeli army claimed the airstrikes targeted the sources of rocket fire in Lebanon as well as “infrastructure used for terror.”

    • Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television said that at 12:40 a.m. two Israeli raids targeted an area outside Mahmoudiya, a village east of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon.

    • An Al-Manar reporter tweeted that the strikes outside Mahmoudiya “hit an uninhabited area.”

    • On Wednesday, three rockets were fired from Lebanon toward occupied Palestine, with two landing across the border.

    • Following the rocket fire, Israel conducted hours of artillery fire along the border, with no injuries reported. Lebanon’s army said the Israeli army fired 92 artillery rounds.

    • Hezbollah has yet to issue an official statement on the rocket fire or the Israeli airstrikes, while Israel did not explicitly say it bombed targets belonging to the organization, which fought a 33-day war against Israel in 2006.
