BEIRUT — The Economy Ministry has slightly increased the per-gram price of small and large bread bundles, after having lowered the cost of bread earlier this week.
Here’s what we know:
• Bakeries will now sell large, 950-gram bundles for LL4,000, which represents a price increase of 2.74 percent per gram.
• Small, 380-gram bundles will cost LL2,500 at bakeries, a 2.63 percent per-gram price increase.
• Both small and large bread bundles cost an additional LL250 at shops.
• The Economy Ministry said the rise in costs reflects the change in the lira’s parallel market value, fuel prices, the global price of wheat and increased power cuts across Lebanon.
• As the lira’s market value appreciated in the market following Najib Mikati’s designation as prime minister, the ministry had on Monday dropped the price per-gram of the small and large bread bundles by 16.08 and 18.3 percent, respectively.
