BEIRUT — The Economy Ministry has lowered the price of small and large bread bundles at bakeries.
What we know:
• Large bread bundles will now be sold at LL3,750 at bakeries, a 18.3 percent per-gram price drop. Small bread bundles will meanwhile be sold at LL2,250 at bakeries, a 16.08 percent per-gram price decrease. Both small and large bread bundles cost an additional LL250 at supermarkets.
• A statement from the Economy Ministry announcing the new prices said that they take into consideration the dollar exchange rate, fuel prices, the international price of wheat, the extensive power cuts Lebanon is experiencing and the population's consequent increased reliance on generators, as well as “the stressful economic conditions and the low purchasing power experienced by citizens.”
• This is the first time since May that the ministry has lowered the per-gram price of bread.
