In a statement, President Michel Aoun has said he told the newly appointed UN special coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Fronska, that he wishes to renew the contract of the UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, UNIFIL. UN soldiers first came to Lebanon in 1978.
