SOUTH LEBANON — Israel has mounted a significant escalation in its deadly attacks on inhabited ares in the district of Nabatieh over the weekend through Monday, triggering residents to flee towards Saida and Beirut despite already reeling from successive waves of forced displacement since the September 2024 war.
Following a mounting death toll over the weekend, Israel's attacks on Monday turned out to be even deadlier. Israel committed a massacre in a pre-dawn strike on a residential building in Kfar Roummane (Nabatieh), killing nine people from the Farhat family — among them two infants. Search efforts are still ongoing among the rubble.
Israel also killed two paramedics and injured a third in a drone strike on a vehicle in front of the Said supermarket also in Kfar Roummane.
Another strike targeted the family home of Bassima Farhat, killed two days ago in Arab Salim, without causing casualties. On the Ali Taher ridge, which Israel claims it captured last week, a Hezbollah fighter was reportedly killed in a strike.
Israel also bombed Nabatieh Fawqa (Nabatieh) and the heights of Jabal Rafih-Sojod (Jezzine). Additionally, Israel targeted Dohat Kfar Roummane with artillery fire, as well as the heights of Soueida, between Arab Salim and Kfar Roummane, along with Jabal Rafih. The strikes were preceded by a powerful explosion in the vicinity of Zawtar Sharqieh.
Successive drone attacks
Also in the Nabatieh region, Israel carried out a strike on a building in Deir Zahrani, which it completely destroyed about twenty minutes after having issued a forced evacuation order of the house at around 2 a.m., while residents were asleep. The Israeli military had ordered residents to evacuate the building marked in red on its map published on X, as well as neighboring homes.
Israeli military vehicles were also seen moving in Baidar Jneijel, in Qantara (Marjayoun), at the same moment a water reservoir was hit by several shells, according to our correspondent. Two explosions shook the locality of Mansouri (Sour) this morning.
On Sunday, Israel killed at least seven people in attacks across the region, which have continued unabated since the claimed (and disputed) capture of Ali Taher. Among those wounded Sunday were Ali Shbib, a journalist for al-Manar television (affiliated with Hezbollah), and his cameraman. Both suffered minor injuries following one of the strikes on the city of Nabatieh.
