BEIRUT — President Joseph Aoun received a Palestinian delegation at Baabda Palace on Friday, led by Yasser Abbas, special representative of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
During the meeting, Aoun stressed the need to respect Lebanese state decisions regarding the state’s exclusive authority over arms, as well as the agreement reached on the disarmament of Palestinian refugee camps. He underscored the importance of Palestinian cooperation with security agencies to ensure the implementation of the plan adopted by the Lebanese government.
The disarmament of Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon began in August 2025, following an agreement signed in May of the same year by Joseph Aoun and Mahmoud Abbas. However, weapons handover operations in several camps across the country have repeatedly drawn criticism, with some questioning whether they amount to genuine disarmament.
