BEIRUT — Two employees of the Beirut Justice Palace were arrested Monday for the alleged theft of cocaine from stocks of drugs seized in ongoing judicial cases, a judicial source told L'Orient-Le Jour.
A clerk for the criminal court and an officer working before the appellate court handling misdemeanor cases were arrested on the orders of Raja Hammoush, the prosecutor at the Beirut appeals court, according to our information.
The theft of an unspecified quantity of cocaine was reportedly reported by the president of the criminal court. This theft was committed for personal consumption and not for resale, according to the judicial source. The investigation, currently being carried out by the drug enforcement bureau, will then be pursued by Ahmad Rami al-Hajj, the prosecutor general at the Court of Cassation.
