NORTH LEBANON — During a hearing held on June 10, the military tribunal presided over by General Wassim Fayad sentenced Salim Fahd, an army soldier, to life in prison for the 2022 murder of Elie Jasser, a thirty-something dentist who practiced in his office in Ablah (Zahle).
Before reaching this current stage, the case had been examined by the prosecutor’s office and the investigating judge, then by the same tribunal then presided over by Khalil Jaber, who retired less than two years ago. The delay in the procedure was partly attributable to the number of requests made by the defendant’s lawyer, a judicial source told L’Orient-Le Jour last May.
The murder of Jasser, a graduate of the dental faculty of Saint Joseph University, shocked public opinion and was immediately condemned by the order of dentists, which called on the competent authorities to apply "the harshest penalties." The family of the accused itself issued a statement, demanding justice for him and stating that they "disavow" the perpetrator.
