BEIRUT — Druze leader Walid Joumblatt, heading a delegation from the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP), was received Wednesday by Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in Doha, after meeting the previous day with the PM and FM, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
According to a statement from the PSP, discussions focused on "the latest developments in Lebanon and the region."
Joumblatt was accompanied by his son, MP Taymour Joumblatt, and MP Hadi Abu al-Hassan.
The meeting with the emir covered the situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as ways to reduce tensions and end the state of war. He praised Qatar’s diplomatic efforts and its steadfast support for Lebanon at all levels.
Qatar, which has been targeted by several Iranian attacks during the war between the United States and Iran, is among the countries that have facilitated negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, though it is not the official mediator. The emirate is also a member of the “quintet” for Lebanon alongside the United States, France, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. It coordinates international diplomatic efforts to support the Lebanese state.
