US military secretly helped 100 mn barrels of oil through Hormuz: Trump

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the U.S. military secretly helped 100 million barrels of oil pass through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran largely closed in response to US and Israeli attacks.

"Last month, I directed our Great U.S. Military to execute a secret mission to support Oil Tankers and other Commercial Ships through the Strait of Hormuz," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform, claiming the US "controls" the waterway.

"Today, I am pleased to announce that this effort has resulted in more than 100 MILLION Barrels of Oil making its way through the Strait, and into the Open Market," he said, adding that more than 200 commercial ships had gone through.

The United States began a military operation dubbed ''Project Freedom'' to escort ships through the strait in early May, but scrapped it after just a day in what Trump described as a bid to end the Middle East war, which Washington and Israel launched on Feb. 28.

U.S. media reported later in May that the effort had resumed, but U.S. Central Command, which is responsible for American forces in the Middle East, said at the time that reports the Navy had resumed "escorting or assisting commercial vessels" were false.

French soldier killed by ‘accidental fire’ in south Lebanon

A French soldier deployed in Lebanon died on Wednesday after being struck by “accidental fire during the preparation of a training exercise,” the French Army’s chief of staff said in a post on X.

‘I extend a hand of peace’: Israeli president addresses Lebanese leadership and people

Israeli President Isaac Herzog renewed his wish to travel to Beirut by car, an idea he first floated on April 22. He said he “dreams” of driving to the Lebanese capital and that this could become possible “only if Lebanon’s future is decided in Beirut.”

“I have a dream: to travel directly to Beirut by car. And this dream can become reality, but only if Lebanon’s future is determined in Beirut and not in Tehran,” he wrote on X.

He added that, during a visit to communities along the Lebanese border, he addressed the Lebanese president and people in Arabic in a video shared online.

In the video, Herzog says: “From the northern borders, I extend a hand of peace to the president and the people of Lebanon, but you must preserve a Lebanon free from the influence of Iran and terrorist organizations,” stressing that the Lebanese state must remain “sovereign and independent.” He repeated his vision of visiting Beirut by car, saying it remains possible if the country’s future is shaped in Beirut rather than Tehran.

In April, Herzog had also expressed his desire to visit “the beautiful city” of Beirut and to “build friendship with the Lebanese people,” presenting the remarks as a “message of hope and peace” during Israel’s 78th Independence Day celebrations at the presidential residence.

‘Direct negotiations’ with Israel the only way out of the war, says Rajji

“The so-called resistance led by Hezbollah has neither liberated Jerusalem nor saved Gaza, and has not even been able to defend Lebanon,” the Lebanese minister also said. “On the contrary, it has plunged us into more violence and more [Israeli] occupation.”

He further described Hezbollah’s claim of defending “the country against invasion and Israeli occupation” as “absurd,” noting that Israel has stated it has “no territorial ambitions in Lebanon.”
