World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed regret Monday over “continued attacks on the health sector” in Lebanon, without directly naming Israel.
“The continued attacks on the health sector further hamper the health system’s ability to meet the needs of the population,” he wrote on X after talks with Lebanese Health Minister Rakan Nassereddine.
The WHO said it would “continue to support the delivery of health care” and called for respect for the cease-fire agreement.
Last week, Nassereddine told the WHO chief that 116 health professionals had been killed by Israel in Lebanon since March 2, when Hezbollah joined the regional war alongside Iran. Airstrikes targeting first responders continued throughout last week, often in “double-tap” strikes targeting paramedics and medical staff responding to bomb sites.
