SOUTH LEBANON — Hezbollah claimed responsibility Sunday for a series of attacks, carried out mainly with rockets, against the Israeli army on the outskirts of Deir Siryan (Marjayoun district), a town located on the south bank of the Litani River and largely destroyed by Israel.
Three of these attacks took place during the night, between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., and two others occurred between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Hezbollah said it mainly launched rockets at Israeli army gatherings during the nighttime attacks, and artillery shells during the morning operations.
It was in the area of Deir Siryan that the Israeli army had claimed to have crossed the river earlier this May, toward the district of Nabatieh, before withdrawing.
According to Israeli army radio, this was done with infantry troops and "heavy armored troop transport vehicles." The army warned that this could "prepare for the possibility of another Litani crossing, if necessary."
Hezbollah regularly claims responsibility for exploding drone attacks or rocket fire at Deir Siryan, specifically targeting "the riverbanks."
