BEIRUT — On Tuesday, Minister of Trade and Economy Amer Bisat inaugurated a new solar energy installation at the Rachid Karami International Fair in Tripoli, our regional correspondent reported.
The 50-kW photovoltaic installation, capable of generating around 100 kWh of electricity depending on sunlight conditions, was financed by the Chamber of Commerce of Tripoli and North Lebanon. Chamber president Toufic Dabboussi attended the inauguration ceremony. The amount invested was not disclosed.
Hani Chaarani, chairman of the fair's board of directors, described the project as "one of the 104 projects completed by the board of directors in eight months," stressing "the importance of solidarity among all components of the city." Bisat said that "high costs and power outages are holding back the economy," adding that solar energy has become a necessity.
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) said in a recent report that Lebanon's total renewable energy capacity reached 1,797 megawatts (MW) in 2025, up from 1,373 MW in 2024 and 318 MW in 2016, representing a compound annual growth rate of 21% over the 2016–2025 period.
