The Strait of Hormuz represents an opportunity as valuable as an atomic bomb,” said Mohammad Mokhber, an adviser to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. “Having a position that allows us to influence the global economy with a single decision is a major opportunity,” he commented, promising not to lose “under any circumstances the gains of this war.” He thus raised the possibility of changing the legal regime of the Strait of Hormuz “by relying on international law” or, if necessary, “by relying on our national law.”

Negotiations in Washington: 'We are working to consolidate the cease-fire,' says Salam

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has stated that the authorities are “working to consolidate the cease-fire” ahead of the next round of talks with Israel. Beirut insists that these discussions, scheduled for next week in Washington, must be accompanied by a halt to Israeli strikes on Lebanon, which have escalated in recent days. Speaking on Al-Jazeera, Salam stated that “if Israeli aggression continues, consolidating the cease-fire will be the top priority in the negotiations.”

“We are seeking U.S. guarantees that will contribute to the restoration of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. We will address the issue of halting Israeli attacks, the release of prisoners and the establishment of a withdrawal timetable to allow for the return of displaced persons and reconstruction,” Salam said, referring to the third round of direct talks in Washington next week.

“Negotiations, as we envisage them, should lead to an end to the conflict between Lebanon and Israel,” Salam emphasized. “Lebanon has succeeded in establishing that the State is the sole negotiating party, through its constitutional institutions. Our success in establishing the state as the reference point for negotiations does not mean that we remain indifferent to developments in the Islamabad talks,” regarding the U.S. war on Iran, he stressed. “We are committed to the state’s sole monopoly on arms, in accordance with the decisions of the Lebanese government,” he added.

'If Lebanon is facing attacks and violence, it’s because of Hezbollah,' Rubio

Donald Trump maintained on Thursday that the cease-fire was still holding, even as Tehran accused Washington of violating it and hostilities resumed in the Gulf.

The United States said it had "targeted Iranian military installations" on Thursday after several of its ships were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. "They played with us today. We blew them out. They played. I call it a game," the U.S. president told reporters, adding that, in his view, the cease-fire was still in effect.

These exchanges of fire are jeopardizing the truce that has been in place since April 8, nearly a month ago, as Washington still awaits a response from Tehran to its latest proposal for a lasting end to the war.
