The United Nations is "working" to maintain a presence in Lebanon after the departure of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), whose mandate expires in December, the U.N.'s under-secretary-general for peace operations said Thursday. The Security Council has requested "options for a possible United Nations presence after UNIFIL," and "we must present these recommendations ... before June 1 of this year," Jean-Pierre Lacroix said at a press conference in Geneva.
