Iranian boats open fire on oil tanker in Strait of Hormuz

Iraq has begun exporting crude oil by tanker trucks via Syria, its Ministry of Oil said, while an official stated that last month's oil revenues had dropped by more than 70% compared to February. Iranian speedboats fired on an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, the British maritime security agency UKMTO reported, after the Iranian military backtracked on its promise to keep the route open to navigation.

The captain of the tanker reported being approached 37 kilometers northeast of Oman by two speedboats from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard. Without any radio warning, the boats "then opened fire on the oil tanker," the UK Maritime Trade Operations Centre said in an online statement.

"The tanker and its crew are reported safe. Authorities are investigating," the statement said.
